By the time we paddled back toward our launch point
in the late avernoon, we were moving slower. |e
morning’s energy had given way to a content fatigue.
We’d caught some great osh, missed a few too, and
enjoyed a quiet kind of thrill that only a small-boat,
low-tech approach can give. Back on shore, pulling
the kayaks out, we felt every muscle in our cores and
shoulders. We looked like we’d been through a minor
war — and in a sense, we had waged tiny battles all day.
Upon pulling the kayaks out, we had two more treats to
experience as a tiger heron was stalking small crabs and
other insects along the shoreline. We also saw a small
crocodile in the backwater mangrove bay adjacent to
our launch site. |ese were spectacular photos to get
aver another incredible day of kayak oshing.
Day 4 Highlights: Kayak oshing in the inner Golfo
Dulce near mangrove estuaries. Landed two pacioc
snook, a hevy roosterosh (released), and jack crevalle,
with bonus sightings of kingoshers, capuchin monkeys,
a great tiger heron and a baby crocodile.
