DAY 10 SARAPIQUÍ: GREEN MACAWS, VULTURES
Quite simply. this was the greatest photography day of my life.
Day ten began with heat already in place. |e Caribbean lowlands don’t warm up
gradually. |ey arrive fully formed, humidity settled into every crease of clothing
before breakfast onishes. |e rainforest here doesn’t wait for you to catch up — it
starts the day at full volume and stays there.
|is was a day designed around distance, elevation, and endurance. Not a collection
of short stops, but a long arc that required commitment. We weren’t bouncing from
highlight to highlight. We were moving through a landscape that only reveals its
most signiocant moments if you stay in it long enough.
|e day began with Edward Vargas, whose familiarity with this region is the kind that
never needs explanation. He doesn’t scan randomly. He doesn’t narrate constantly.
He listens orst. |en he looks. And when he stops walking, it’s usually because
something important is about to happen.
Photographers waiting to capture the giant green macaws
staging in the nest.
