The Rio Celeste confluence at Tenorio Volcano National Oark,
DAY 8 FROM DOTA TO THE CARIBBEAN
Day eight reversed almost everything Day seven had trained us
to expect. We lev San Gerardo de Dota early, before the cloud
forest had fully lived its veil. |e road down followed the river
valley, and almost immediately the world began to reorganize itself.
Temperature rose by degrees you could feel rather than measure.
|e air thickened. Moss gave way to broader leaves. |e silence we’d
grown accustomed to dissolved into sound again.
|is was not a gentle transition. It was a dismantling. |e descent
from the cloud forest to the Caribbean lowlands feels less like
travel and more like passing through stacked ecosystems, each one
asserting itself brieny before yielding to the next. It’s one of Costa
Rica’s quiet tricks: the geography compresses what should take
continents into a single morning.
