|e cloud forest does not give itself away easily. Morning in San Gerardo
de Dota arrived quietly — the kind of quiet that feels deliberate rather than
empty. At elevation, sound travels diferently. |e river below the lodge
murmured steadily, but above it there was restraint. No coastal insects. No
macaw alarms. No chaos. Just a damp, oltered stillness that made you lower
your voice instinctively.
|is was a day designed around precision, not abundance. We met Michael,
our guide, early and moved toward Don Williams’ property before the
light fully settled. Quetzal photography is not about wandering. It’s about
returning. |e same fruiting trees. |e same perches. |e same angles. Again
and again. Until the forest decides you’ve earned a glimpse.
